Dahlov Zorach Ipcar was born on November 12, 1917, in Windsor, Vermont and summered in Maine as a child. She married Adolph Ipcar (1905 - Oct. 2003) when she was 18 and they moved to a Robinhood, Maine farm where she has lived since 1937.
Ipcar has written and illustrated more than 30 children's and young adult books, many repeating her primary images of animals and farm life. There's a biographical sketch of Ipcar on the Univ. of Southern Mississippi's de Grummond Collection site, and Pat Davidson Reef wrote a book on her entitled Dahlov Ipcar, Artist (1987).
