Cows and pigs, make way for lions and zebras! In 2010, legendary Maine artist and author Dahlov Ipcar released her first new book in more than 20 years, "Dahlov Ipcar's Farmyard Alphabet." Now, she has created another board book that features her signature jungle animals, plucked from her vivid imagination.
Dahlov Ipcar's Wild Animal Alphabet draws on illustrations from ten of Ipcar's previous children's books, most of which are out of print, as well as two of her fine art paintings. Her original rhyming couplets take readers on a fantastic trip from antelopes to tigers all the way to "Z is for Zebra, who always comes last." Toddlers and parents alike will be charmed by snakes winding through trees, elephants taking a shower, and wolves howling in the night.
The artist, who lives on a former farm in Georgetown, Maine, still works and paints almost every day. She continues to have ideas about new projects, including more board books.
