ABOUT THE SONGWRITER
Randy Spencer is a Master Maine Guide based in the eastern Maine town of Grand Lake Stream. He is also a singer/songwriter in the country/folk tradition who has released 5 CDs, including Old Maine Guide and Footprints in the Sand. Musically, Randy is perhaps best known in the Northeast for his song, "Black Flies," a certified, chart-topping, number one hit song in 1981 which he performed throughout much of northern New England and the Maritime Provinces of Canada. The success of "Black Flies" paved the way for a career of songwriting and producing. His 1999 CD One Road reached Number 12 on the European Top 100 chart for "indie" labels.

Over the years, Randy has played on the same bill with artists such as Roger McGuinn of The Byrds, Dr. Hook, Jonathan Edwards, Tom Paxton, John Hammond, Kenny Rankin, Steve Goodman and others. He has appeared as a guest on CBS Sunday Morning with Charles Osgood, ESPN2's Backroads with Ron and Raven, and Boston Channel 5's Chronicle.

In 2008, Yankee Magazine named Randy one of the "25 People You Need to Meet Most This Summer" and Portland Magazine named him one of the "10 Most Intriguing People in Maine."

"You'd be hard pressed to find a stronger, or more vocal, advocate for the glories of life in the Maine North Woods than Randy," wrote Maine humorist, Tim Sample.

Later this summer, Islandport Press will release Randy's first book, Where Cool Waters Flow, which covers a year in the life of a Maine Guide.

TRACK LISTS
Old Maine Guide (2001)

1. The Worry Road
2. Lillian
3. Pine Tree Store (click song title to hear sound clip)
"Public forum, center of gossip, intersection of information, fishing trips, hunting stories, and home of the famous Liar's Bench, the Pine Tree Store is pure Americana. This is dedicated to the store owners I've known."
4. My Own Grandpa
5. The Lucky One
6. In a Town this Size
7. Moose Permit
8. Old Maine Guide (click song title to hear sound clip)
"As someone once said of the Guides of Grand Lake Stream, 'It's like walking among legends.' The older Guides are town treasures. They are repositories of a brand of wisdom practically extinct in America and to spend time with one of them can be an unforgettable experience. They love their trade and it is sometimes with great difficulty that they give it up in their advanced years."
9. My Someone
10. King of Swing
11. The Dutchman

Footprints in the Sand (2009)

1. My Old Friend
2. Blue Collar Soul (click song title to hear sound clip)
"My grandfather, Henry P. Spencer, worked for American Thread for 50 years, and walked away with a gold watch and a fob. He gardened, hunted, fished, and laid down a work ethic in the family bloodstream. Truth is, I wouldn't trade my blue collar soul for a silver spoon."
3. Wide and Deep
4. Footprints in the Sand (click song title to hear sound clip)
"It has only been with my father's passing that his legacies have distilled and crystallized for me. When I wrote my book, I made reference to Whitey Wieman, an elderly man I knew when I was young. When he died, his wife Ev told me, 'he left a lot of footprints in the sand.' They're never as visible as when the person who made them is gone."
5. It's About Time
6. Inspiration
7. Shadow Man
8. Helena
9. Dancin' Tonight
10. To Build a Wall
11. Song for Dave
