About this Book:

Finalist, Reader’s Choice Winner, Outstanding Work of Children's Literature, 2016 New Hampshire Literary Award

Albert’s vacation was amazing—or so he thought. To friends, his time in Maine was boring. Dull. Lame. They’ve got a more vivid and exciting idea of what Albert could—and should—have done on his trip. But Albert might just have a surprise for his friends, after all.

Marty Kelley tells this wonderful read-aloud story in a fresh and imaginative way, contrasting panels of black-and-white charcoal drawings of dull old Albert with wonderful color spreads of what Albert’s friends imagine for his summer adventures. Did Albert really tussle with ninjas and parlay with pirates? Or did he spend his time in Maine in the most boring ways imaginable? What really made his amazing summer vacation so amazing?

"Anyone with a child who has a wonderfully creative brain will appreciate this tale."
––Children's Book Review on Instagram

The contrast between when Albert is telling his story and when his friends are making guesses as to his “amazing” adventures is illustrated in pictures that shift between black and white and wonderful colors. It is a clever device to help your students determine what is real and what is fantasy."
––Brian Smith, Scholastic Blog for Teachers

As unique as it is entertaining, "Albert's Almost Amazing Adventure" is very highly recommended for children ages 5 to 8 and would prove to be an enduringly popular addition to elementary school and community library picture book collections.
