Charlotte Agell signed by Islandport Press

Islandport Press is pleased to announce it has signed Maine writer and artist Charlotte Agell and will release her children’s board book, Mud, Sand, and Snow, in the spring of 2019.

Mud, Sand, and Snow is a celebration of the four seasons, as a young girl explores, with her family and friends, mud in the spring, sand and wind in the summer, leaves and pumpkins in the fall, and the joys of snow in winter. Toddlers will enjoy listening to, and repeating, the easy rhyming text that invites them to use all their senses to experience the world changing around them. They will feel grass tickling toes, hear bees buzzing, and see their breath steam in the cold of winter. Author and illustrator Charlotte Agell brings her trademark light and airy watercolors to this joyful board book scheduled for release in April.

Inspired by a quartet of books about the seasons that Agell wrote and illustrated many years ago, this board book is aimed at toddlers. “It has elements of each season,” says Islandport Press Editorial Director Melissa Kim, “that make it perfect to share with children who are learning words to describe the natural world. Charlotte’s text tells one story, and the illustrations tell many others. Children will discover wonders in both the pictures and the words. It’s such a delight to work with an author and illustrator who understands children so well.”

Charlotte Agell is the author and illustrator of twelve books for children and young adults. Her newest picture book, Maybe Tomorrow, illustrated by Ana Ramírez, is scheduled to come out in March 2019. Originally from Sweden, Agell also grew up in Canada and Hong Kong. She is the mother of two grown children. A longtime public school teacher, Charlotte loves living near the coast of Maine.
