The sustainable cooking book also receives Honorable Mention for Best Cookbook of New England

BOSTON (June 27, 2017)—Islandport Press is pleased to announce that Green Plate Special, by food writer and sustainability expert Christine Burns Rudalevige, has won the 2017 “Socially Conscious” category of the Readable Feast awards. The book also received Honorable Mention for Best Cookbook of New England.

The 2nd Annual Culinary Book Awards winners and honorable mentions of this year’s cookbook and food writing awards on Friday, June 23, at a gala event held at the Boston Public Library that included foods inspired by local celebrity chef cookbook authors using seasonal ingredients.

The Green Plate Special cookbook ($24.95, Islandport Press) is based on the "Green Plate Special" column that Rudalevige writes each week in the Maine Sunday Telegram. In it, she shares her recipes for sustainable, and delicious meals, as well as tips and tricks for greening your kitchen and reducing waste.

“Having Green Plate Special selected as the Readable Feast's socially conscious book of the year signals a high level of interest in the message of and the methods for getting more sustainable food onto the average eater's table,” says Rudalevige, “and I am very grateful for the opportunity to help ensure future generations have access to quality, healthy, delicious food. Professionally, as a food writer and recipe developer, to even be listed as a finalist among the chefs and cookbook authors, many of whom I have learned so much from, was a huge honor.

Rudalevige is a classically trained cook who lives in Brunswick, Maine. She has also worked as a chef, a farmers market manager, and a boutique caterer.  Christine founded the Family Fish Project (a website dedicated to eating seafood at home) and later worked as a lead culinary instructor at Stonewall Kitchen.
