Islandport Magazine announces second year of Fiction Writing Contest in partnership with the University of Maine Farmington Creative Writing Department.

The Fiction Writing Contest is exclusive to students of the University of Maine at Farmington and has a grand prize of publication in Islandport Magazine’s Spring 2019 issue. There is no fee to enter.

UMF Writing ContestRequirements:

All entries must have an overarching theme of “Maine.” The “Maine” theme can be conveyed through setting, character, or mood of the piece.

All entries must be 2,500 to 3,000 words, typed, double-spaced, and saved as a Word document.

All entrants must be students currently enrolled at the University of Maine Farmington.

Prize:

The winning story will be published in Islandport Magazine’s Spring 2019 issue with a professional byline and blurb about the author. Islandport Magazine has a circulation of more than 40,000. The winning author will also receive ten complimentary copies of the magazine.

Submitting:

Submissions should be emailed as Word document attachments to magazine@islandportpress.com with the subject line “Islandport Magazine Fiction Writing Contest Entry.” Be sure to include all bio and contact information, including name, email address, and phone number, with the submission.

Submissions will be judged by the editors and staff of Islandport Magazine. Entries will be judged on literary merit, strong sense of place and character, and excellent attention to detail.  Judges’ decisions are final.
