For Summer 2022, Islandport Press will again offer a ten-week, in-person internship in the book publishing industry. We look for highly-motivated, organized, enthusiastic individuals who are interested in learning about all aspects of book publishing from editing to marketing to events, and are willing to pitch in wherever the need arises. These are paid hourly positions with set, but somewhat flexible schedules.
Our interns typically work 24 to 30 hours a week from mid-June to mid-August. (Occasionally, we offer shorter internships during spring and fall semesters.) We give preference to college students who will be entering their senior year, but we also consider recent post-graduates as well as younger college students.
For Summer 2022, applications are due by May 3. We will contact all applicants regarding status and conduct interviews between May 5 and May 11. We will make a decision by May 13.
Interns at Islandport Press will work in all areas of a small publishing house. Duties include, but are not limited to editing, manuscript evaluation, data entry, marketing, social media, research, writing, and other miscellaneous tasks.
If you are interested in a summer internship, you must submit a resume and cover letter, including your dates of availability and expressing the goals you hope to accomplish, no later than May 3. Writing samples are a plus. Please send your application via email to Shannon Butler at email@example.com. No telephone calls, please.
We do use freelance editors for a variety of book editing tasks, including copyediting and proofreading. If interested, please send a cover letter and resume to: Editor-in-Chief, Islandport Press, P.O. Box 10, Yarmouth, Maine 04096 or email to firstname.lastname@example.org. We keep resumes on file for possible project work.
